Daniel R. Seichepine - Neuropsychologist, Professor, Mentor

We are excited to introduce 2023 TEDxAmoskeagMillyard speaker, Daniel R. Seichepine!

What's your favorite TED or TEDx Talk, and why?

It is hard to pick a favorite TED or TEDx talk, because I like so many of them. Perhaps my top two are: Elizabeth Loftus' talk on false memories, and Johann Hari's, “Everything you think you know about addiction is wrong”. Both of these talks are passionate and address common issues.

What people or events have inspired you professionally?

I am inspired by the patients that I see. I am inspired and energized every time I hear a patient tell me that I helped them. It feels good knowing that you did your small part to improve someone else's life.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

Education, education, education! If I could change one thing about the world it would be to improve funding and respect for education. Our world faces many problems. I am particularly passionate about our health and I believe that education can greatly improve our everyday functioning. Unfortunately, too many educators are burnt out, face too much backlash, and therefore struggle with allowing their passion for teaching to come out. With improved funding and support, perhaps we could start to address some of our many problems.

How did you feel when you learned you had been chosen as a speaker for TEDxAM23?

I had many feelings. Of course, I was excited and nervous. I am also hopeful that I will present a talk that will be memorable and helpful to others. I see so many misconceptions about dementia, and I hope that this talk will help some patients/families better understand this condition.

What do you most want TEDxAM23 attendees to know about you?

I suppose that I want the attendees to know that I am passionate about brain health and dementia.
