Give us your bio in 10 words or less

I use my knowledge, skills and abilities to improve lives.

What's your favorite TED or TEDx Talk, and why?

This is a tough one. I lean towards the (smart) funny talks and there are several great ones.

I’m going to have to go with Tim Urban’s “The mind of a master procrastinator.”

I not only appreciate his topic (very relatable to so many people), but that his talk flows well, he uses pauses/the stage/graphics/body language that align with the talk. He keeps my attention and I’m constantly curious over what he’s going to say next.

I think what’s especially great is that he talks about himself but doesn’t spend much time in the negative…as in, disliking himself or putting himself down for being a procrastinator. That can be a tough line to walk. He just talks about it matter of fact (and with humor, of course).

There are other humorous talks on a variety of subjects – from not terribly important to very

important – but I believe, overall, Tim best incorporates a variety of effective tools in his talk.

What people or events have inspired you professionally?

First, my parents. They taught me the value of effort but also provided me with some necessary hard and soft skills that have helped me be more successful. I’m always inspired by military service members who lead by example, who put integrity and those they serve above all. Likewise, I’m inspired by entrepreneurs working to solve problems, while often overcoming substantial obstacles, in the name of helping others. And, without fail, every day I am reenergized by women who work in outdoor professions and don’t think anything more of it than “It’s just who I am.”

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

The way in which humans treat other living things (whether human, animal, or nature, etc.)

How did you feel when you learned you had been chosen as a speaker for TEDxAM23?

I was elated. I am sure I, literally, danced around for a bit. I felt like I won the lottery. And, I did!

What do you most want TEDxAM23 attendees to know about you?

I want them to know I appreciate them! And, I hope to personally connect with them.
