We are excited to introduce 2023 TEDxAmoskeagMillyard Speaker Nicholas Rinella!

What's your favorite TED or TEDx Talk, and why?

“The Future of Organ Transplants”, by Robert Lechler.

This particular TED Talk holds a special place in my heart because it inspired me to present at the Science on Tap Event at Stark Brewery in February 2023. After my presentation on Organ Transplantation that night, a representative from the Rex Theatre approached me, inquiring if I'd ever thought of delivering a TED Talk. Trying, but failing, to hide my enthusiasm, I responded, "It's my dream!" Robert Lechler's TED Talk provided the foundational dialogue that framed my discussion that evening. This talk served as the pivotal turning point, steering my career path towards the direction I had envisioned for the last four years, TEDxAM23 as the pinnacle.

What people or events have inspired you professionally?

Dr. Arvidson, Dr. Hornier, Dr. Ergin, Dr. Hawkins, and the entire Orthopedic Specialist Team at Essex Orthopedics in Salem, NH. The invaluable moments spent shadowing the team, engaging with patients, and immersing myself in the dynamic and encouraging atmosphere throughout my inaugural high school internship, collectively fostered within me a profound sense of self as a capable and empathetic professional—an identity I had never truly embraced before.

My Parents have consistently nurtured my aspirations, showering me with love and care in countless ways.

My Papa. Throughout my childhood, my grandfather imparted intricate mechanical knowledge and a broad range of handy skills as I assisted him in his small engine repair business. Beyond the technical, he instilled in me the art of being affable and approachable. He's been an integral influence in every facet of my personal and professional growth. He inspires me to become a better individual, overflowing with compassion and devoid of hatred.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

I envision establishing an institution dedicated to mentorship and life coaching. This establishment would offer individuals professional counsel, emotional reinforcement, and life-strategizing capabilities. Its main aim would be to empower individuals to set long-term goals and devise strategies for achieving them. Many struggle to find the regimented structure once provided by their academic itinerary. I expect that the guidance provided by this institution would enable individuals to discover a profound sense of purpose and understand the underlying motivations driving their ambitions. This holistic approach holds great potential for developing independence, alleviating financial constraints, and cultivating a society enriched with self-fulfillment, compassion, and collaboration.

How did you feel when you learned you had been chosen as a speaker for TEDxAM23?

Even as I read the email confirming my selection for this year's TEDxAM23, I struggled to believe I had been chosen. I was beyond ecstatic and humbled to have been selected. From the very beginning of my career, I've believed that knowledge is most powerful when it is shared. TED, as a platform, has been instrumental in democratizing knowledge, and to be a part of this legacy is genuinely an honor. The world of medical research is both vast and intricate. Every day, remarkable strides are made that have the potential to redefine our understanding of human health and disease. Yet, much of this knowledge remains confined to the walls of laboratories and academic journals. Through this TED Talk, I see an invaluable opportunity to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research in tissue manufacturing and the general public. Knowledge, especially in the field of medicine, has the power to inform decisions, change perspectives, and even save lives. I am eager to empower the audience with insights and breakthroughs that can reshape the way we look at health, disease, and wellness.

What do you most want TEDxAM23 attendees to know about you?

I am a clinician and scientist, with an insatiable curiosity, eager to grasp every detail, no matter how seemingly trivial. My life's mission is to develop technology for the purpose of enhancing the quality of human life, with a profound emphasis on using sustainable practices and materials. My passion originates from an intense desire to benefit humanity and positively influence those around me.
