We asked our upcoming speakers a series of questions to get to know them a little better in advance of their presentation. In this post, we’re featuring Geoffrey James, business writer and author.
What was your reaction when you learned you were chosen as a speaker for TEDxAM18?
Who is an inspiration or mentor who has influenced your work?
While I hate to admit it, Tony Robbins had a huge effect on my life, causing me to quit my cushy corporate job, go freelance, write books, etc.
What is your favorite TED or TEDx Talk and why?
To be entirely honest, my favorites are The Onion satires. As for the real TED talks, it depends on what I’m going through at the time, since I sort of use TED talks like mental medicine.
How does what you wanted to be when you grew up compare with what you’re doing today?
Well, since I’m spending most of time doing computer animation nowadays, I’d have to say it’s pretty much a 100% match.
If you could pick one person to present a TED talk, who would you choose? Why?
Doctor John Dee, the court alchemist of Queen Elizabeth I, because 1) he was an early proponent of the key idea that mathematics was the root of all science and 2) he thought he was talking directly to angels.
You can see (and meet) Geoffrey when he presents at the TEDxAmoskeagMillyard event on June 2, 2018. Register now.
